Flow routing continuity error |
Bear with me for a moment while I describe what I have.
Model A:
4 Subcatchments going to 4 depressions (storage nodes) (each has their own). Each storage node has an outfall (free fall, elevation = thousands of feet below the storage node) with an outlet link. The rating curves for each storage node's outlet are calculated externally (excel) based on soil reports conductivity and other data in order to model infiltration.
Model B:
4 subcatchments going to 4 depressions (storage nodes) (each has their own). I input Green-Ampt numbers for each storage node for seepage (I used the recommended values in the SWMM manual.)
When I run Model A, I get a flow routing continuity error of 0.04% , which is pretty doggone good. When I run Model B, I get a flow routing continuity error of 87% and the depth in two of the four storage nodes is a constant 0. The storage nodes are getting inflow, but it doesn't seem to be doing anywhere after it gets to the nodes. Any ideas on what the problems may be?

I'm not sure what's going on.
The continuity error on both models is 0.04%.
The peak flows over weir overflow_2_to_1 are very similar and occurred at the same time.
The models are running on swmm version 5.1.012.
I'm not sure what happened to the email, some line breaks crept in, the models ran ok after I edited them out.
Weird -- I had our IT guy update SWMM and now I get the same (0.4% on each of them).

You said you entered Green-Ampt (G-A) parameters for your storage units in Model B, correct? The text just shows 0's for Psi, Ksat, IMD. My thought is that if you shut off your infiltration outlet links and had 0's for the G-A parameters (i.e. nowhere for flow to go), then the continuity loss could be due to your storage nodes flooding and water stored at the end of the simulation (that appears to often be a source of continuity error in my models - not always sure why; I'll leave that to people whose math is better than mine). Just a thought.
